The factory trawler Centurion Del Atlantico is now in place in Floro

news-details

The trawler is owned by the Argentine fishing company Estremar, and is scheduled to undergo a major rebuild during the next nine months.

The ship must first be stripped of equipment before an extensive process in which everything from the propulsion system such as the main engine and nearby systems such as the control room and rudder and propeller system must be replaced. Furthermore, a steel structure will be installed aft for the new rudder and propeller system.

Additional work to be carried out on the ship is the dismantling and installation of a new fishmeal factory, as well as the upgrading of pipes and electricity on board the existing Surimi factory.

- There is a major rebuild to be carried out, and we have planned to spend nine months on the job, which will employ both our own and subcontractors, says Terje Totland, head of ship repair at Westcon Yards in Florø.

The factory trawler arrived in Florø in mid-July and work will now start in August. Docking of the trawler is scheduled to take place during September.
